Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for this day and its many blessings. Thank You for the new experiences You have planned for us. Please lead, guide, and direct us in all that we do so that we will bring honor and glory to Your name. It is in the precious name of Your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ that we ask these things. Amen.

Main Points

1. Jesus Gives Those Who Believe in Him a New Life

John 3:16-18 (NASB)
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18 “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Romans 6:3-4 (NASB)
3  Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4  Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.

Colossians 3:1-10 (NASB)
1  Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. 3 For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4  When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. 5  Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. 6 For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, 7 and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them. 8 But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, 10  and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him—

2 Corinthians 5:17-21 (NASB)
17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 18 Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

2. When Jesus Comes Again, the Heavens and Earth Will Be Made New

New Heaven and Earth

Revelation 21:1-2 (NASB)
1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.

Revelation 19:6-9 (NASB)
6 Then I heard something like the voice of a great multitude and like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. 7 “Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.” 8 It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. 9  Then he said* to me, “Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.'” And he said* to me, “These are true words of God.”

Man’s relationship with God is fully restored.

Revelation 21:3 (NASB)
3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them,

The curse of death is lifted.

Revelation 21:4-6 (NASB)
4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” 5 And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said*, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” 6  Then He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost.

The saved enjoy eternity in God’s presence.

Revelation 21:7 (NASB)
7 “He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son.

The lost mourn eternity outside God’s presence.

Revelation 21:8 (NASB)
8 “But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

Conclusion

Which group will you be in, the saved or the lost?

  • If saved, what about those close to you: friends, family, loved ones?
    • Would you ignore those around you who are lost?
    • Jesus has commissioned you to be a witness and share His Gospel.
  • If lost, why continue in death?
    • Believe in Jesus and be born anew.
    • Look forward to His return when all things will be made new.

Everyone will live forever, the only question is where?

  • In the newness of life in the eternal presence of God?
  • In the torment of death in the eternal absence of God?

You do not have forever to decide, Jesus’ return is imminent.

2 Peter 3:10-13 (NASB)
10  But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. 11  Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! 13 But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for each breath that provides us with new opportunities to be in service to You. Lord I pray that if this sermon finds its way to anyone who is lost, that perhaps Your Words, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, would convict them of their situation and that they, in turn, would desire to be reconciled to You through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Alternately, if this sermon finds its way to anyone who is saved, that perhaps Your Words would likewise, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, convict them of the areas of their life which they have yet to turn over to You and that they, in turn, would rededicate their life to You. May You receive all the credit, in Jesus’ name, amen.

Gospel Invitation

Is the Holy Spirit stirring within your heart? Is He convicting you of the need to make changes in your life and/or calling you to take action? The Bible says:

James 4:17 (NASB)
17 Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.

1 John 5:3 (NASB)
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.

If the Holy Spirit is urging you to take action, it is important to respond with immediate obedience. Delayed obedience is disobedience. Please read the following sections that apply to your current situation and prayerfully consider the suggested course of actions.

I am lost. I need to accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.
